Responsible and reasonable steps are taken to ensure the safety of children, staff and others on the premises in the case of fire or any other emergency including emergency evacuation procedures.
Detection and control equipment (fire alarms, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and fire blankets) are regularly checked to ensure full working order in the event of emergency. Fire exits are clearly identifiable and fire doors are kept free of obstructions and easily opened from the inside.
All reasonable steps are taken to ensure that staff and children in our care are not exposed to risks. Written risk assessments in relation to specific issues, inform staff practice and demonstrate to parents how we are managing risks.
Risk assessments identify aspects of the environment that need to be checked on a regular basis, when and by whom those aspects will be checked, and how the risk will be removed or minimised.
Guidance on risk assessments are obtained from the Health and Safety Executive. http://www.hse.gov.uk/services/education/index.htm
